Nearly-Sprung Wordpress Theme
Heya,
This site is run using the wordpress blog software. While setting it up I couldn’t find a theme that I liked, so I decided to make my own.
Nearly-Sprung is a rework of Becca Wei’s “Almost Spring” using the same orange and green colour scheme. However I modified it to be a three column blog with fluid centre column, and optimised for vertical layout so its possible to not have any vertical scrolling on a 1024×768 screen.
I have built in support for the following plugins:
-Sidebar widgets (two columns)
-Photopress
-Geo Mashup
-Next/Previous Post in same Category plugins
-Official Comments
-Viper’s plugin list
Also note that to have random header backgrounds, just drop in a 80 pixel high jpg starting with the name “headerbackground-” and itll automatically be picked up and used.
This has only been tested on wordpress 2.0.2, 2.0.3 however should work on any 1.5.x or higher versions of wordpress.
Feel free to download and use on your own site. The code is GPL except the header image supplied, which is under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 License.

Now here’s a theme that WORKS! Its excellent, love the 3 column fluid layout, the green isn’t my fav, I would love if the color was optional, like 3-4 to choose from, but its very good nonetheless.
Hope to see more Widget friendly themes from you guys

A great modification of a great theme, one question though, I am using IE and the left hand column is appearing on the right hand side obscuring much of the content. Is there anyway to fix this or is it just IE?

I love Almost Spring, and I needed a three-column layout for one of my blogs, so this is perfect! My only question is about the green bar across the top. If one has sub-pages, these appear beneath the green bar, screwing up the layout. Is there any way around this? Thanks!

Hey Guys, I’m glad you like my theme.
Mike: I use Opera, Firefox, and IE 6 to test my site (and thus this theme) and It all seems fine. So I don’t know why it would screw up in your browser. Could you tell me what version of IE you are using? and what your screen resolution is? Have you tried force reloading the page (hold down shift while pressing the reload button)? incase you came to the site when I was fiddling with it.
Meredith: Heh, that was always the case with me trying to find a theme, there was always one little bit that wouldn’t work, and for you, it seems to be your sub-pages
I don’t know of an easy fix to your problem. The green page bar is done as a list, so maybe you could modify the CSS for the green bar to hide the sub-pages? Or maybe turn the bar off altogether? Another option could be to modify the bar so it works with sub-pages (I dunno how you would actuall accomplish this, maybe make the bar two rows?). Sorry I couldn’t offer any more help

Got it! I needed to modify the wp_list_pages code to exclude the relevant pages. Now “Nearly Sprung” is working perfectly for me…so far! Thanks!

I’ve always liked almost spring and had it installed as one of hte optional themes. But when I saw this, I knew I had to modify it for the default layout! Thanks, it’s lovely. Still working out my secondary colours though. I’m much too monochromatic…

Oh, I meant to mention, also. The link at the bottom for the “Design by” isn’t laid out correctly. Looks like perhaps you depend on a plugin? Although I notice the same problem on this page too. Hover over the name, you’ll see the link is “http:///” — not too useful!

It works great but one thing — it caused photopress plugins not working anymore.

Am thrilled with this 3 column layout so far. But I have a problem:
Numbered and bulleted lists display incorrectly in IE 6. The spacing between items is off, and with numbered lists it only repeats #1?

This theme is not displaying correctly in IE7, the left sidebar blanks out. I’m working on what the problem is, but if anyone else figures it out before I get a chance, please post!

Hey Guys,
The 3 column layout code in CSS has alot of workarounds for various bugs in IE. I can only assume that IE 7 has fixed some of those bugs, and now the fixes themselves are causing bugs. Ugh.
I can’t look at it in the immediate future as I have 2 months of work to catch up on (oh to be back on holiday).
Thanks for the feedback guys, when I have a chance to work on the theme Ill see to squashing the bugs mentioned above.

Ok, I’ve googled about the problem, and have got a css fix for IE7, thanks goes to http://blog.skagirlie.net/

This is a great theme with what appears to be what I’m looking for. Keep up the good work in developing this theme. There are very few themes with fluid and optimized for 800 x 600 and 1024 x 678 px. However I have 2 concerns :
1) Has the problems with IE7 been fixed in the download link, or should I need to go and manually modify the style.css as described above? I just downloaded it…
2) I’m still new to blogging and Wordpress, so this might be a dumb question…lol, but how do I edit the headers and the site title because the green color of the title (I have a long title) blends with the header graphic and makes it hard to distinguish…Of course I’m going to modify the header anyway, but is the only way to do it is to use Photoshop?

Heya Jeff,
1) You will manually need to modify style.css for now, I expect to update the download before new years though.
2) If you have a long title, then you will need to edit the header image itself to be less wide so though don’t clash. If you need to change the colour, then you will have to edit the colour in style.css and print.css.

Awesome theme. I have been using the Almost Spring them for some time. I wanted to get a 3 column theme to utilize the screen space better as I am not really targeting people with 800×600 layouts. This fits me perfectly. Checkout my site. Also, if you need any help with this theme, I will be glad to do stuff.

Hi Ricky,
I was looking for a new look for my blog and i found yours. I must say I liked it and did modification to adjust to IE 7 as well. Thanks for sharing such wonderful theme.
I noticed that your have some other good things in your site i.e. “Previous”, “Next”, and also photopress…can you or someone who is using this, share how to get plugins for that?

I really love your theme. In fact I changed the colors & used it for my blog redesign. However, I can’t seem to solve a problem with ordered and unordered lists. The bullets get thrown off. See this latest post at http://www.coaching4lesbians.com/blog/2007/03/29/whos-been-living-in-your-skin/ The last bullet doesn’t show up at the beginning of the sentence but rather the 2nd part of it. I have posts where it is much worse because the glitch occurs earlier in the unordered list.
Have you run across this? How have you solved it? I looked in the css file but nothing jumped at me. If you could help that would be great..less gray hair for me
